Renaissance Earrings Opal and Pearls c. 1540
(1948)

Lovely Renaissance earrings have glass opal cabochons in lacy antiqued brass settings with a Czech glass teardrop pearl. These glass opals are milky white with pale yellow, blue and pink flashes of color. The earrings are 2 1/4 inch long, including the shepherd hook for pierced ears (hook style may vary). Created for you by Dorothea.
Earrings such as these are seen in many Renaissance portraits, including La Bella by Titian from 1536.
OPAL: During the Middle Ages and Renaissance era, the opal was called ophthalmios, or eye stone, and was thought to have magical powers. Most ancient opal came from the mines in what is now Eastern Europe.
