People have probably worn necklaces since time began. Over the years the styles and materials changed as the skills and tools of jewelry makers developed. Today's collectors of vintage necklaces recognize their value is based on artistry and design, whether they be made of wood, glass, ivory, precious or base materials.
Many vintage necklaces are not signed, and some of these are the most beautiful. When designers and companies were making costume jewelry 40 to 100 years ago, they had no idea their jewelry would be collected and worn by woman many years in the future. If only we had a time machine, we could travel back in time and insure that all those "mystery" pieces were signed!
